I Want It All

Great news for “I Want It All. Hildegard Knef”: Luzia Schmid’s documentary has been awarded the Prix Italia 2026 in the TV Performing Arts category.

The jury praised the film’s consistent approach of telling Hildegard Knef’s story from her own perspective, combining rare archival material from six decades of her life and career, including concert footage, film excerpts and interviews. Created to mark what would have been Hildegard Knef’s 100th birthday, “I Want It All. Hildegard Knef” portrays a surprisingly modern and self-determined woman – an “impressive portrait of a strong woman” which, in the jury’s words, truly deserves the Prix Italia.

Our Berlinale entry and audience favorite 'I want it all' is heading to Australia! Luzia Schmid’s documentary will be screened in cinemas across eight cities this May as part of the HSBC German Film Festival: Adelaide, Ballarat, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. 
A big thank you to the festival and to all the movie lovers who will now have the chance to discover Hildegard Knef and her remarkable story on the other side of the world.

On 16 February, the time had come: the world premiere of ‘I Want It All’ at the Berlinale. Hildegard Knef's daughter Christina and her husband Paul von Schell joined the team led by director Luzia Schmid to celebrate a reunion with Hilde on the big screen. The audience in the sold-out Haus der Berliner Festspiele applauded the film and celebrated the immortal Hildegard Knef.
